Softball Recap: Central Victorious

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders, sneaking past 5-4. The victory continues a trend for the Dragons in their matchups with the Marauders: they've now won four in a row.

Riley Peterson spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alexis Fetzer, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Norah Bechtel, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Central's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Bishop Guilfoyle, they dropped their record down to 0-5 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central will face off against Greater Johnstown at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.75 runs per game on average), something the Dragons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Bishop Guilfoyle, they will challenge Penn Cambria at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
