Baseball Game Preview: Lakeside Dragons vs. Edgewood Warriors

The Lakeside Dragons will challenge the Edgewood Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lakeside has given up an average of 7.7 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Lakeside is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Wednesday. They took a 17-13 hit to the loss column at the hands of Geneva. On the bright side, the 13- run effort marked the Dragons' highest-scoring contest to date.

Anthony Wooten made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. Wooten is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Gage Tome, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Edgewood and Lakeside have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Monday. The Warriors won by a run and slipped past the Dragons 4-3.

Alex Sperduto was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Zane Naylor was excellent, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Logan Randolph also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Lakeside's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Edgewood, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
