McAdory is 7-1 against Mountain Brook since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Yellowjackets will head out on the road to take on the Spartans at 5:00 p.m.
McAdory easily dispatched Bessemer City on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Yellowjackets fell just short of Calera by a score of 10-8 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Yellowjackets have suffered against the Eagles since March 4, 2017.
Payton Yarbrough and Josie Mahaffey stepped up to the plate in a big way. Yarbrough scored three runs while going 3-for-4, while Mahaffey scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mountain Brook). They blew past Woodlawn 23-3 on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Spartans as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Morgan Minich was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Edith Kaplan, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Mountain Brook hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.
With the loss, McAdory broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 19-10-1. As for Mountain Brook, their record is now 11-26.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. McAdory hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .383. However, it's not like Mountain Brook struggles in that department as they've averaged .328. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went McAdory's way against Mountain Brook in their previous meeting back in March, as McAdory made off with a 16-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellowjackets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
