Softball Recap: Bloomington Extends Winning Streak to Five

Bloomington hadn't done well against Normal West recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Purple Raiders had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 2-1. That's two games straight that the Purple Raiders have won by just one run.

Reilly Vetter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Bloomington saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abi Witt, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Witt has hit this season.

The win (which was Bloomington's fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Normal West, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.

Coincidentally, Bloomington and Normal West will both be playing Richwoods the next time they take the field. The Purple Raiders will host the Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Wildcats will head out to face them at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
