Basketball Recap: New Manchester's Run of Seven Straight Wins Now Over

After a string of seven wins, New Manchester's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They lost to the Alexander Cougars on the road by a 83-64 margin. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Jaguar this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 69-59 back in December of 2024.

New Manchester's loss came despite strong showings from Jah'Siah Payne and Delancy Alexander. Payne went 5 for 11 on his way to 18 points, while Alexander went 7 of 12 en route to 16 points. The matchup was Payne's third in a row with at least ten points. Kayden Baxter was another key player, putting up seven points.

Even though they lost, New Manchester smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 16 consecutive games.

Gregory Dunson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Alexander, almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine assists. That's the most assists Dunson has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Chris Hutchinson, who went 5 of 6 en route to 15 points.

New Manchester's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-5. As for Alexander, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 18-7.

As of now, neither New Manchester nor Alexander have any future games scheduled.
