Basketball Recap: Shawnee Takes a Loss

Shawnee fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Joppa-Maple Grove on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 61-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Joppa-Maple Grove Rangers. The Redskins just can't catch a break and have now endured six losses in a row.

Despite the defeat, Shawnee saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kyler Jewell dropped a double-double with 28 points and 13 boards. Jewell has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Noah Mayberry was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Joppa-Maple Grove can attribute much of their success to Marcus Stallings, who posted 32 points. The dominant performance gave Stallings a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Brandon Pease, who scored nine points.

Shawnee's loss dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Joppa-Maple Grove, their win bumped their record up to 2-21.

Shawnee didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 80-63 defeat against Carrier Mills-Stonefort on the 7th. As for Joppa-Maple Grove, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 98-74 loss against Community Christian on the 10th.
