Basketball Recap: South Whidbey's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

If South Whidbey was riding high fresh off their 60-18 takedown of Tyee last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The South Whidbey Falcons fell 65-55 to the La Conner Braves on Monday. The Falcons lost against the Braves in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 60-23 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why South Whidbey lost, don't look at Cody Redford. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. Redford is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Sage Northup was another key player, going 5 for 11 on his way to 10 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, South Whidbey was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

With the defeat, South Whidbey broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-2. As for La Conner, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

South Whidbey will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Mt. Baker at 6:45 p.m. on January 6, 2025. La Conner also won't see the court for a while: their next contest is against Coupeville at 7:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025.
