Volleyball Recap: Cory-Rawson Fighting Hornets vs. Elgin Comets

Cory-Rawson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They came up short against the Elgin Comets, falling 3-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Fighting Hornets of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

Cory-Rawson was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Elgin work for it, especially in the second set. The final score came out to 25-10, 26-24, 25-9.

Casey Montgomery paced Cory-Rawson's offense, picking up four kills. Montgomery got some help from Katelyn Duffman and her 11 assists. Brie May controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Elgin got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kadence Gear out in front who had eight kills and eight aces. Gear has been hot for a while, having posted five or more kills the last 17 times she's played. Jordan Wall was another key player, getting 11 kills and six aces.

Cory-Rawson's loss dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Elgin, they pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Cory-Rawson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Waynesfield-Goshen on the 23rd. As for Elgin, they have also already played their next match, a 2-1 win against Tree of Life Christian on the 20th.
