Softball Recap: Providence Hall Takes a Loss

Providence Hall extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 11-8 in the process. They fell 9-5 to the San Juan Broncos. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Broncos apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2021.

Hailey Lenz made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Mariah Garcia was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

As for San Juan, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 13-13. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

On San Juan's side, Khatira Keith made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Keith was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Averie Gilson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Palmer, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Providence Hall will be taking part in a tournament against Altamont at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Longhorns have averaged an impressive 10.4 runs per game this season. As for San Juan, they will challenge Taylorsville at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Broncos' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
