Basketball Game Preview: Edinburg North Cougars vs. Weslaco Panthers

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Edinburg North Cougars duke it out with the Weslaco Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday... Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

On Monday, Edinburg North made easy work of Economedes and carried off a 72-49 win. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 398th, while the Jaguars are ranked 898th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Weslaco over La Joya in every quarter on their way to victory on Monday. Weslaco enjoyed a cozy 57-39 victory over La Joya. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Weslaco is also on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Edinburg North, their win bumped their record up to 19-13.

Edinburg North strolled past Weslaco in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 by a score of 58-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for Edinburg North since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
