Baseball Game Preview: Mesa Jackrabbits vs. Boulder Creek Jaguars

Mesa is on an eight-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Boulder Creek a five-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The Mesa Jackrabbits will host the Boulder Creek Jaguars at 3:45 p.m.

Mesa fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Dobson on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 8-3 to the Mustangs.

Mesa saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Ruelas, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. Another was Sam Babalola, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Boulder Creek). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Camelback a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Jaguars as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Chase Lile looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Boulder Creek is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Matt Nicolosi was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Chase Gilmore was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.

Boulder Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Mesa's defeat dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Boulder Creek, their victory bumped their record up to 5-12.
