Softball Game Preview: Cascade Cougars vs. Philomath Warriors

Cascade has gone 9-1 against Philomath recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Cougars will face off against the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. One thing working in Cascade's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.

On Thursday, Cascade got the win against Sweet Home by a conclusive 15-1. Considering the Cougars have won 18 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Cascade got a massive performance out of Malia Scanlan, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Taylor Bays was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Philomath was a bit more limited in their game on Thursday. They lost 14-1 to Stayton. The loss continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost eight in a row.

Philomath saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylee Martin, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.

Cascade's win bumped their record up to 21-1. As for Philomath, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

Philomath's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cascade has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 13.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Philomath, though, as they've been averaging 8.9 hits. Given Cascade's sizable advantage in that area, the Warriors will need to find a way to close that gap.

Cascade took their victory against Philomath when the teams last played last Wednesday by a conclusive 13-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
