Recap: Pineapple Cove Classical Academy Patriots vs. Merritt Island Christian Cougars
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Pineapple Cove Classical Academy Patriots can now relate to. They were dealt a 78-15 defeat at the hands of the Cougars on Wednesday. Pineapple Cove Classical Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 55-11.
When it comes to explaining why Pineapple Cove Classical Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Rachel Waine. Despite the final result, she scored eight points along with two steals. Waine is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Pineapple Cove Classical Academy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Merritt Island Christian pulled down 13 offensive rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Merritt Island Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaity Shea, who scored 23 points along with five assists and four steals. Shea is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Summer Snaith, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Pineapple Cove Classical Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-18. As for Merritt Island Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.
Pineapple Cove Classical Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Merritt Island Christian is on the road again on Friday and plays Morningside Academy at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Morningside Academy's defense has only allowed 28.5 points per game this season, so Merritt Island Christian's offense will have their work cut out for them.
