Basketball Recap: Fort Myers Find Success

Fort Myers proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 31) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Ida Baker Bulldogs, sneaking past 44-41. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Green Wave have posted since November 28, 2023.

Skye Douglas continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 7 for 10 on her way to 16 points and three steals. Douglas is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Juliya Smith was another key player, putting up two points along with 12 rebounds, six blocks, and three steals.

Despite the loss, Ida Baker still got an impressive performance from Maia Berdebes, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 boards. The dominant performance gave Berdebes a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Emilee Plummer, who posted ten points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Fort Myers has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Ida Baker, they dropped their record down to 2-8 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Fort Myers will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Seacrest Country Day at 12:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025. After both having extra time off, Ida Baker and Dunbar will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 9:00 a.m. on January 3, 2025.
