Basketball Recap: South Johnston's Win Ends Six-Game Losing Streak at Home

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but South Johnston ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past the Southern Wayne Saints 34-32. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 44-41 back in January.

Despite the loss, Southern Wayne still got an impressive performance from Nevaeh Hines-Bass, who went 7 for 17 on her way to 18 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. That was a full 56.3% of Southern Wayne's points, marking the tenth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

South Johnston's win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-14. As for Southern Wayne, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

South Johnston will be playing at home against Smithfield-Selma at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Johnston is facing Smithfield-Selma at the right time seeing as Smithfield-Selma is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Southern Wayne, they and East Wake will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played.
