On Monday Chase Hilt struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and not a single walk), which was good enough to set a new career-high in strikeouts. As if that's not impressive enough, the pitching appearance was his fifth in a row with less than two walks. This season, he has an ERA of 1.60 over 30.7 innings pitched.

Hilt's strong effort led Temecula Valley over Chaparral and he'll get a chance to do so again: the teams have a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Golden Bears are 8-2 against the Pumas going back to March of 2022, a lead they'll look to extend.
