The Woodside Wildcats are taking a road trip to take on the King's Academy Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Woodside's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so King's Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Woodside was handed a ten-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Carlmont.
Hannah Walker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Caroline Ong, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Vanessa Carlos also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, King's Academy entered their tilt with Hillsdale on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Fighting Knights a 3-0 shutout.
The result came thanks to Katia Nesper's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Sophie Giles was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Ava Thompson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Woodside has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for King's Academy, they pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.
Woodside skirted past King's Academy 9-8 in their previous matchup back in April of 2015. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
