Softball Game Preview: East Union Urchins vs. Hamilton Lions

For the second straight game, East Union will face off against Hamilton. East Union will face off against Hamilton at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (East Union has nine straight victories, Hamilton has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

East Union's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Hamilton 11-0. The result was nothing new for the Urchins, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Lucy Cochran was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in February. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madi Robbins, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marley Clayton, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI.

East Union kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

East Union's win was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Hamilton, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
