Basketball Game Preview: Tulelake Honkers vs. Hayfork Timberjacks

Tulelake hasn't had much luck against Hayfork recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Tulelake Honkers will be playing at home against the Hayfork Timberjacks at 8:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Tulelake is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Dunsmuir, posting a 73-46 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Honkers as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Hayfork had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They beat the Panthers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 75-34. The Timberjacks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 25 points or more this season.

Tulelake better keep an eye on Levi Cavalli. He was instrumental in Hayfork's win, almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. Cavalli's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tatem Wiley, who posted 13 points.

Hayfork smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

Hayfork's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.6 points per game. As for Tulelake, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-10.

Tulelake was dealt a bruising 87-59 loss at the hands of Hayfork when the teams last played back in January of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Cavalli, who almost dropped a triple-double on 33 points, 11 rebounds, and nine steals.
