Softball Game Preview: Jefferson County Tigers vs. Rickards Raiders

The Jefferson County Tigers will face off against the Rickards Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Jefferson County has now lost ten straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since February 25.

Jefferson County lost 17-1 to Wakulla Christian School on Tuesday.

Jefferson County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liria Vargas, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was Vargas' first of the season.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Rickards made sure to put some runs up on the board against Hamilton County on Thursday. The Raiders put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 11-5 win. Considering the Raiders have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Shanyia Holmes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Rickards let Arriana Wilson and Zamiah Palmer run wild. Wilson scored three runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-3, while Palmer scored four runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Palmer has posted since back in February. Alivia Scott was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base.

Rickards' victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-9. As for Jefferson County, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.

Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Jefferson County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .490. However, it's not like Rickards struggles in that department as they've averaged .484. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
