Basketball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Sonora's Ninth in Last 11 Outings

Sonora won the last time they faced Hughson and things went their way on Thursday too. The Sonora Wildcats strolled past the Hughson Huskies with points to spare, taking the game 61-43. The Wildcats pushed the score to 46-26 by the end of the third, a deficit the Huskies cut but never quite recovered from.

Sonora's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Noah Wright, who posted 17 points. Wright has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Luke Otterson was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Sonora was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hughson only racked up seven assists.

When it comes to explaining why Hughson lost, don't look at Jackson Gehrke. Despite the final result, he earned 13 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kyle Young, who put up eight points.

Sonora has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points over those games. As for Hughson, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-16 record this season.

Coming up, Sonora won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Ripon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Sonora has won four straight at home, while Ripon won five straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Hughson, they will also get right back to it: they'll challenge Orestimba at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hughson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.9 points per game this season.
