Softball Recap: Sam Rayburn Takes a Loss

Sam Rayburn fell victim to Manvel and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Mavericks, falling 19-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mavericks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-6 back in March.

Sam Rayburn saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hazel Hernandez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

This is the second loss in a row for Sam Rayburn and nudges their season record down to 5-18. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 13-8-1 Alvin (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 59.3% over those games). As for Manvel, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-9.

Sam Rayburn and Manvel could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Texans will face off against Dawson at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (829 vs. 365). Meanwhile, Manvel (ranked 377th) will meet Alvin (ranked 167th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
