Basketball Game Preview: Leon Cougars vs. Lovelady Lions

Leon hasn't had much luck against Lovelady recently, but that could start to change on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Leon Cougars take on the Lovelady Lions at 6:15 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Leon sitting on six straight wins and Lovelady on eight.

Leon is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Centerville 82-35. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 22 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Lovelady strolled past Centerville with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 51-35. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 267th, while the Tigers are ranked 1420th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lovelady has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points per game. As for Leon, they pushed their record up to 19-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Leon came up short against Lovelady in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 52-44. Can Leon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
