Baseball Game Preview: Niles Vikings vs. Kalamazoo Central Maroon Giants

The Niles Vikings will venture away from home to take on the Kalamazoo Central Maroon Giants at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Niles' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Kalamazoo Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

New Prairie hit Niles with a four-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 7-6. The Vikings' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Kalamazoo Central's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 7-4 to Lakeview.

Gannon Deanda was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Eliot Goerge, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Kalamazoo Central now has a losing record of 16-17. As for Niles, their defeat dropped their record down to 20-5.

Niles came out on top in a nail-biter against Kalamazoo Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2015, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
