Recap: Eastern Mennonite Flames vs. New Covenant Gryphons
The Eastern Mennonite Flames's game last Tuesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They had just enough and edged New Covenant out 63-60. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Eastern Mennonite has posted since December 19, 2023.
Eastern Mennonite's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Drew Hatter, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Prodigy Simms, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Eastern Mennonite used a slightly different lineup for their bout with New Covenant. And. Isaiah Campbell made the most of the opportunity, scoring six points. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Tristan Isenhour and Douglas Powell certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Isenhour scored 23 points along with six rebounds, while Powell dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Isenhour scored 15 or more points. Cole Murdock was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds.
Eastern Mennonite has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. As for New Covenant, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Eastern Mennonite will take on Grace Christian School at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Eastern Mennonite is coming into the contest with four straight victories at home, so Grace Christian School is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. As for New Covenant, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Veritas School at 5:30 p.m. on February 9th. New Covenant is facing Veritas School at the right time seeing as Veritas School is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
