Basketball Game Preview: High Island Cardinals vs. Burkeville Mustangs

The High Island Cardinals will take on the Burkeville Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with eight consecutive losses for High Island and five for Burkeville.

High Island came up into this matchup off a tough 72-point loss on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Lumberton by a score of 2-0 on Friday. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Cardinals were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Burkeville took a blow against Good Samaritan HomeSchool on Saturday, falling 68-26. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1561st, while the Hornets are ranked 171st).

Burkeville's defeat dropped their record down to 2-10. As for High Island, their loss dropped their record down to 2-13.

High Island and Burkeville were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in February, but High Island came up empty-handed after a 57-56 defeat. Can High Island avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
