Basketball Recap: Sebastian Still Key Part of a Team Effort in Fury Win

Forge Christian won the last time they faced St. Mary and things went their way on Saturday too. The Forge Christian Fury took down the St. Mary's Pirates 69-55. Given the Fury's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Pirates are ranked 137th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Forge Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sebastian Still, who made all 7 shots he took to post 16 points and three steals. Those 16 points gave Still a new career-high. Owen Hovis was another key player, going 5 of 8 on his way to 14 points.

St. Mary's lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Michael Trechter, who went 5 for 10 en route to 13 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Bret Stewart, who posted eight points and four steals.

Forge Christian has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for St. Mary's, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Forge Christian will welcome Stargate School at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Forge Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Stargate School likes a good challenge. As for St. Mary's, they will host Salida at 6:30 p.m. on February 15th.
