Preview: Campolindo Cougars vs. Miramonte Matadors
Campolindo is 9-1 against Miramonte since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Campolindo Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Miramonte Matadors at 7:30 p.m. Campolindo is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
Campolindo put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 52-32 margin over Alhambra. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Campolindo has posted against Alhambra since January 9, 2015.
Campolindo's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Dylan Mansour, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, and Tim Smith, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Miramonte ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top against Acalanes by a score of 74-66. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Marcus Robinson was his usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-9 from deep and dropping a double-double on 31 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that he pulled down eight or more rebounds. Jack Quinnild was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Campolindo's record is now 18-4. As for Miramonte, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-7.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Mansour and Robinson. Mansour has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 14.4 points, 1.6 steals, and 5.3 rebounds. For his part, Robinson has averaged 21.1 points and 2.1 steals.
Everything came up roses for Campolindo against Miramonte when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 65-24 victory. Does Campolindo have another victory up their sleeve, or will Miramonte turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
