Basketball Game Preview: Athens Hornets vs. Mabank Panthers

The Athens Hornets will head out on the road to challenge the Mabank Panthers at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 63-26, which was the final score in Athens' tilt against Canton on Friday. The Hornets haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mabank). They claimed a resounding 82-22 victory over Kemp. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matches by 23 points or more this season.

Mabank pushed their record up to 22-5 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 38.2 points. As for Athens, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-11.

Athens suffered a grim 61-38 defeat to Mabank when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Can Athens avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
