Baseball Recap: Lamar Wins Going Away Against Buena Vista

Lamar won the last time they faced Buena Vista and things went their way on Friday too. The Thunder blew past the Demons 17-2. The result was nothing new for the Thunder, who have now won four matches by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Alex Aguilar made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, Alex Santos and Cael Buxton did most of the damage at the plate: Santos scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Buxton scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Buxton is becoming a predictor of Lamar's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Adriel Gonzalez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Lamar kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in five consecutive games.

Lamar has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.2 runs over those games. As for Buena Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Lamar beat the Demons by a score of 15-5 later that day.
