Basketball Recap: Canby Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

Canby won against Parkrose last Monday with 63 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. The Canby Cougars beat the Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts Mustangs by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 63-44. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while the Mustangs are ranked 237th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jaxon Lawson was his usual excellent self, going 10-for-16 to rack up 25 points. Jack Brauckmiller was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds.

Canby smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Canby has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.6 points over those games. As for Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts, their loss was their 11th straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-18.

Looking ahead, Canby won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hood River Valley at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Hood River Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Canby likes a good challenge. As for Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts, they will square off against Wilsonville at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Wilsonville will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts surely won't give up without a fight.
