Softball Recap: Brandon Takes Down Ranked Northwest Rankin

Brandon faced Northwest Rankin in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Bulldogs walked away with a 5-2 win over the Cougars. This was a revenge game for the Bulldogs: when they faced off against the Cougars last Tuesday, they had to take a 8-5 loss.

Dakota Davis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Chloe Jenkins, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Jo Sullivan, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Brandon has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That somehow still isn't as good as their 19-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Northwest Rankin, the defeat snapped their winning streak at 14 games and leaves them with a 23-3 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brandon will square off against Oak Grove at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Northwest Rankin, they will face off against Sumrall at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
