Preview: Bessemer Academy Rebels vs. Glenwood Gators
Bessemer Academy has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Glenwood Gators at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. Bessemer Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matchups -- so hopefully Glenwood likes a good challenge.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Bessemer Academy walked away with it. They took down the Wildcats 76-61 on Tuesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Meanwhile, Glenwood scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Morgan Academy with a sharp 87-62 win. Given Glenwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while Morgan Academy is ranked 333rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bessemer Academy pushed their record up to 22-1 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.8 points per game. As for Glenwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-10 record this season.
Bessemer Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Glenwood in their previous meeting back in February of 2020, winning 65-55. Will Bessemer Academy repeat their success, or does Glenwood have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
