Recap: Shaker Bison vs. Wallkill Panthers
It was a good run, but the Shaker Bison unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of Wallkill by a score of 64-62. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Wednesday (57), Shaker still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Shaker still got an impressive performance from Sierra Carter, who scored 19 points. That's the first time this season that Carter scored 15 or more points. Peyton Hoblock was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Shaker were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wallkill only pulled down an offensive rebound.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wallkill to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zoe Mesuch, who scored 29 points along with five assists. The matchup was Mesuch's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Dembinsky, who scored 20 points.
Shaker's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Wallkill, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shaker will take on Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 247th, while Shaker is ranked 28th). Wallkill will finish 2023 at home by hosting Pine Bush at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Pine Bush's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
