Softball Recap: Housatonic Mountaineers vs. Shepaug Valley Spartans

Housatonic had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-4 to make it six. They lost 19-4 to the Shepaug Valley Spartans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 22-4 on April 8th.

Housatonic saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abby Hogan, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Daniela Brennen was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Shepaug Valley, the victory got them back to even at 5-5. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won four games by nine runs or more so far this season.

On Shepaug Valley's side, Brianna Johnson and Cameron Tisi were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Johnson pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Tisi struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Johnson went 1-for-3 with two runs, while Tisi went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

In other batting news, Hayden Fisher was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Clare Moore, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.

Housatonic will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Nonnewaug at 3:45 p.m. on May 14. As for Shepaug Valley, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 4-3 loss against Thomaston on the 29th.
