Game recap: Ruidoso High School Football Team beats Robertson

LAS VEGAS, N.M. - Ruidoso (N.M.) captured the lead in the fourth quarter and held on for a 26-21 victory over Robertson (Las Vegas, N.M.) on Saturday. The Warriors captured the lead for good when Bryce Pompos thew a touchdown to Parker Johnson.

After trailing 12-0 at the half, the Cardinals went ahead on a defensive touchdown with 9:00 to go in the fourth. Ruidoso grabbed hold of the lead when Pompos thew a touchdown to Johnson with 7:00 left in the fourth quarter, and never relinquished it.

Each side put up six points during the third quarter, and the fourth quarter began with the margin still at 12.

Pompos stood out for the Warriors in the win. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored 12 touchdowns on the season.

Robertson's James Gonzales III played well. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to four on the year.



Ruidoso got revenge for last year's 28-20 loss to the Las Vegas school with the victory.

The victory was a step in the right direction for the Warriors, which was coming off a 38-6 defeat at the hands of Silver in its previous game. The defeat comes as a step back for Robertson, which notched a 24-15 victory over Pojoaque Valley in its previous outing. The loss snapped the Cardinals' 2-game winning streak.

In a 3A District 2 game next week Robertson (3-4) takes on Raton, and Ruidoso (7-1) will go up against Portales in a non-conference game.
