Baseball Recap: Fort Mill Takes a Loss

Fort Mill entered their game against Catawba Ridge on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets fell just short of the Catawba Ridge Copperheads by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Yellow Jackets have suffered since April 24, 2024.

Fort Mill got a good showing from John Risk, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, Risk posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Cooper Diehl was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Blankinship, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Fort Mill's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Catawba Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2-1 record this season.

Fort Mill will head out on the road to face off against Clover at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Clover will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Fort Mill surely won't give up without a fight. As for Catawba Ridge, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Northwestern at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Northwestern 3.7, Catawba Ridge 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
