League recap: DeWitt tops St. Johns to extend winning streak

Adding to the longest winning streak in Capital Area - Red this week, DeWitt beat St. Johns 48-20. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Panthers.

Owosso scaled the state rankings by moving to 297 from 351 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Trojans were able to move up by besting Fowlerville 41-0.

Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Ionia's Colin Prominski goes up against the Redwings' Mark Bozzo.

One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when the Bulldogs and St. Johns face off next week. Lane Porter has dominated opposing QBs with a total of 4.0 sacks, while Austin Gregory has 575 passing yards and 6 touchdowns on the season.

Next week's game between Ionia and Dave Mariage's team will feature an aerial matchup as Gregory tests his arm against Bozzo's defensive ability.

A big matchup in Capital Area - Red this week will be when Owosso takes on DeWitt. At the moment, the Trojans are in fifth, while Rob Zimmerman's team is in first.

There should be lots of points scored when the Redwings and Mike Holes' team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, St. Johns comes in having scored 56 this season, while the Bulldogs have scored 96. The Redwings scored 20 points last week as they fell to the Panthers.

Owosso made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,115 from 9,199. The improvement was the result of a 41-0 victory over the Gladiators last week.
