Softball Game Preview: Struthers Wildcats vs. Beaver Local Beavers

The Struthers Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Beaver Local Beavers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Struthers has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with four straight losses, while Beaver Local will come in with ten straight wins.

Struthers lost 19-4 to Windham on Tuesday.

Giavanna Smiley was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Beaver Local owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Wednesday. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over Minerva.

Not much got past Addie Thurik, who gave up just three hits to keep Minerva off the board. Thurik has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Calleigh Eells was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ally Wright, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Beaver Local's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Struthers, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-12.

Struthers suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Beaver Local when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
