Softball Recap: Whitewright Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

Whitewright and Tom Bean pushed the score to 23-0 the last time they played Tom Bean, but on Tuesday defenses reigned supreme. The Tigers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Tomcats a 3-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 23-0 back in February.

Taryn Minzenmayer was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Courtney Brumley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Whitewright is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Tom Bean, they dropped their record down to 2-12 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road.

Coming up, Whitewright will head out to face off against Honey Grove at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Tom Bean, they will host Tioga at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.53 runs per game on average), something the Tomcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
