Preview: Mesa Jackrabbits vs. Desert Vista Thunder
The Mesa Jackrabbits will head out on the road to face off against the Desert Vista Thunder at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Mesa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Monday.
Last Monday, Mesa faced Canyon View in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Mesa took a 67-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Canyon View. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Conway Cummard, who scored 16 points. He scored a full 26.7% of Mesa's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Seumanu, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, even though Desert Edge scored an imposing 62 points on Thursday, Desert Vista still came out on top. Desert Vista was the clear victor by a 82-62 margin over Desert Edge. Desert Vista's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
This is the second loss in a row for Mesa and nudges their season record down to 7-2. As for Desert Vista, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Mesa was able to grind out a solid victory over Desert Vista in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, winning 68-58. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mesa since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
