Softball Game Preview: Portage Mustangs vs. Conemaugh Valley Blue Jays

The Portage Mustangs are taking a road trip to take on the Conemaugh Valley Blue Jays at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Conemaugh Valley took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Portage, who comes in off a win.

On Thursday, Portage beat Conemaugh Township 6-1. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won seven in a row.

Kendall Stancovich made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Mikaila McCoy was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Kiera McCarty also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Portage was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Conemaugh Valley unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of Portage by a score of 7-6.

Portage's win bumped their record up to 2-12. As for Conemaugh Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.

Portage skirted past Conemaugh Valley 7-6 in their previous matchup on Wednesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
