Baseball Game Preview: Azusa Aztecs vs. Duarte Falcons

For the second straight game, Azusa will face off against Duarte. The Aztecs will welcome the Falcons at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Azusa will aim to continue their five-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Azusa is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Duarte by a score of 18-13 on Tuesday.

Matt Huizar made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Huizar was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacob Elliot, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Sanchez, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI.

Azusa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .532. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .532 or higher in three consecutive games.

Duarte has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-6 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Azusa, their victory bumped their record up to 4-7.
