Softball Recap: Hoover's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Hoover came tearing into Friday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Roosevelt Rough Riders by a score of 9-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 13-1 back in April.

Hazel Martinez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

Martinez wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Vasquez, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Layla Jimenez was another, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

Hoover's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Roosevelt, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.
