The Century Jaguars will head out on the road to face off against the Gresham Gophers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Century's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Gresham's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Century is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Beaverton just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Beavers by a score of 3-2.
Century saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Kinney, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Bailey Udasco also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Gresham made easy work of Lakeridge on Monday and carried off a 16-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Gophers, who have now won four games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Ayden Gardenhire and Despina Seufalemua made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Gardenhire tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Seufalemua tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Gardenhire has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Gardenhire scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Seufalemua went 3-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Alyssa Grover was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two doubles. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. La Terra Foster-Frison was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing five bases while going 2-for-5.
Gresham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Gresham now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Century, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 5-4.
Century couldn't quite get it done against Gresham in their previous matchup back in March of 2022 as they fell 7-2. Can the Jaguars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
