Basketball Recap: Kobe Stevenson and Deandre Higgs Secure Win for Thornton

It's playoff time, and Thornton had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past the Longwood Panthers 57-36 on Monday. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while the Panthers are ranked 538th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Thornton to victory were Deandre Higgs and Kobe Stevenson. Higgs dropped a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards, while Stevenson on his way to 18 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Those 18 points gave Stevenson a new career-high. Martell Mason was another key player, putting up eight points.

Thornton's win bumped their record up to 9-20. As for Longwood, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.

Thornton will take on Lemont at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lemont will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Thornton surely won't give up without a fight. Longwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
