Basketball Game Preview: Northview Vikings vs. Covina Colts

The Northview Vikings will venture away from home to challenge the Covina Colts at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Northview will be strutting in after a win while Covina will be coming in after a defeat.

Northview took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They had just enough and edged Charter Oak out 51-49. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Vikings have posted since December 29, 2023.

Northview relied on the efforts of Brian Dominguez, who went 5 of 10 en route to 19 points, and Brendan Altamarino, who posted 16 points. The dominant performance gave Altamarino a new career-high in points.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Covina's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of West Covina by a score of 46-43.

Covina's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-12. As for Northview, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-12 record this season.

Northview beat Covina 48-41 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Northview since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
