Softball Recap: Canyon Comes Up Short

If Canyon was feeling good fresh off their 9-1 takedown of Burbank on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Canyon Cowboys fell just short of the Birmingham Patriots by a score of 4-3 on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cowboys of the 3-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2023.

Jessica Carr spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. Those hits were her first of the season.

At the plate, Emily Torres made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That stolen base was her first of the season.

Canyon has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. Birmingham's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-2.

Coming up, Canyon will welcome Lancaster at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Birmingham, they will square off against Heritage Christian at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
