Basketball Recap: Seventy-First Continues Home Dominance on Monday

Seventy-First waltzed into their contest on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Cape Fear Colts by a score of 47-40. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Colts are ranked 244th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the defeat, Cape Fear had strong showings from Shanel Sutton, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds, and Elisabeth Kirkland, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine boards. Sutton is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last 18 games she's played.

Seventy-First pushed their record up to 17-8 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Cape Fear, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season.

Coming up, Seventy-First and Lumberton will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest, having both just played. Cape Fear does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
