Baseball Recap: Northview Comes Up Short

Northview blew Sullivan out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Sullivan got their revenge. The Knights fell just short of the Golden Arrows by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Knights have suffered against the Golden Arrows since April 11, 2018.

Northview got a good showing from Peyton Esker, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Esker has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Jackson Pierce made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Northview's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 4-7 when he doesn't). TK Black was another key player, earning one run and three stolen bases.

Northview's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Sullivan, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-2.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Northview will challenge rival Edgewood at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Sullivan is set to square off against their familiar foe West Vigo at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Golden Arrows 3.6, the Vikings 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
